The Last Hurrah?

AlcatrazFor the past 4 or 5 years I’ve gone out to GDC with Seapine, to man the booth and talk up the company and our solutions. With the baby coming in May, there’s no family vacation this year so Julie decided to tag along on this trip as a “last escape” before chaos sets in.

Her parents watched the kids, while we spent 4 days on the west coast! Unfortunately, it was cold (~40s) and rainy the whole time but we both had a lot of fun. With the conference and handling office stuff I was basically working 12 hours days so dinner was really the only chance we had to hang out together, but Julie made it to Muir Woods and Alcatraz and did a lot of walking around the city, which she enjoys. I have a college buddy who just finished up his Phd there so it’s always good to reconnect with him, and he took us around the city Friday night before we had to catch the redeye back to Cincy.

All in all, a good time and well worth the pain that airtravel these days can cause (cancelled flight, lack of decent food, both of which we experienced).

Blondie’s Bar & Grill, ugh!

Blondie’s is a local place about a mile down the road from us, that’s been around for a year or two. I like going there every couple months, it’s a nice change of the pace from the usual LaRosa’s and Skyline.

Last fall Julie was newly pregnant and had a bad experience there so it has been off limits ever since. Once she has a bad experience with a food, she’ll never eat it again. It’s been 3 years since Ava and she still won’t eat my chili because of a similar incident.

To my surprise, when I called on the way home from work today and suggested Blondie’s she said “ok.” Boy, big mistake! It was really pathetic, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re out of business by the summer! It’s Lent, so we got the fish which used to be a big piece of cod with the gnarly breading. Today, we got some frozen piece of shit that was smaller than the bun it came on! Even worse than that was the “caesar” salad which does indeed require the quotes. The whole salad was lettuce stalks or whatever they’re called; you know, the white chunks of crap that you get when you buy the cheap pre-packaged stuff?

So either Blondie’s is already going downhill and can’t afford real lettuce and fish, or they’re just bad business folk.
