The Kidnapping of a Fledgling

The girls were in the backyard being all quiet and secretive, which means something is definitely going down! Julie went out there and they were carrying around and feeding worms to a small bird. So they brought it up to the deck and at first we thought he was hurt. It turned out he was kind of a teenage (?) bird who was out and about in a neighbor’s yard likely learning to fend for himself when the girls essentially kidnapped him. We learned all of that in 5 minutes on YouTube! Apparently fledgling birds like this are not infrequently taken by kids or adults who think they’re hurt but really they’re transitioning from living with mom and dad in the nest and setting out on their own. So we made the kids return him to the place they found him, we hope he makes it back to wherever he came from.
